First Church Choristers

A new program of free, world-class music education for children in grades 2-8 launching October 26!

What does the Chorister program involve?
-Rehearsal each Thursday afternoon from 4:30-6 p.m.
-Small group theory training
-Singing two Sundays per month (generally the 1st and 3rd Sundays) for worship at First Church alongside the semi-professional First Church Adult Choir
-Singing for occasional special services and concerts, such as Christmas Lessons & Carols
-An inclusive, open, and affirming learning environment

What will Choristers learn?
-Musical skills in voice and theory
-Teamwork, leadership, and collaboration
-Confidence, personal skills, and friendship
-A lifetime appreciation of music

Who is eligible?
-Children with unchanged voices in grades 2-8
-Families of any or no faith background
-No financial commitment, this is a free program
-No previous musical experience required, only an eagerness to learn and willingness to commit!

Who’s in charge?
-This is a program of First Congregational Church, a presence in Columbus since 1852
-The Director of the program is Joshua Stafford, an internationally-known organist and choral conductor, who has built similar programs in New Jersey and Florida
-Volunteers, including well-known conductors and musicians from the Columbus community will assist with small group instruction
